Six New Things God Wants to do in Your Life

My dad has worked hard as a landscaper for over forty years. As you can imagine, it has taken a significant toll on his body. It’s no surprise that his body is tired, especially when you consider that he’s been thrown from a tractor, rolled his truck, fallen out of trees, roofs, and ladders.

As a result, he recently underwent shoulder replacement surgery. The doctors literally took out his old worn-out shoulder and put in a brand new one. Crazy! I think they even shipped it in from Amazon Prime. Okay, maybe not.

The bottom line is that it was time for my dad to get a new shoulder. The old needed to go so that his body could function properly again. It was weighing him down and keeping him from his full potential.

The same can be said in our spiritual lives. Over the years, some things get old, worn out, and can hinder us from reaching our full potential. Maybe it’s a past hurt, poor life choice, or just being spiritually tired. It can all leave us feeling pretty hopeless.

The good news is that we don’t have to stay that way. We have a great physician in Jesus Christ who takes our old worn out, no-good parts and replaces them with something new… something better.

Here are Six New Things God wants to do in your life right now.

1. God wants to make a new river in your desert.

Isaiah 43:18-19 tells us, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

In this verse, Isaiah is prophesying about the coming of Jesus. He tells us that your past might be a desert, but our future becomes a flowing river with Jesus.

2. God wants to make you a new creation.

2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us, “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

God likes new things. Making you new in Christ is one of his top priorities. And he never makes an inferior product.

3. God wants to give you a new heart.

Ezekiel 36:26 tells us that when you come to God, “(He) will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”

You cannot be a new creation without a new heart. That’s where God starts every time.

4. God wants to grant you new mercies every morning.

Lamentations 3:22-23 tells us, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Lamentations 3:22-23 tells us, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

I love this verse! It reminds me that when I get tired and worn out, our God never does. Always remember His love for you never stops, and every day he pours out new mercies on you.

5. God wants to give you a new song.

Isaiah 96:1-4 says, “Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise.”

There’s something supernatural that happens when we sing a song of worship to the Lord. Never underestimate the power of worshiping when life is feeling old.

6. God wants to give you new joy.

Isaiah 61:3 tells us that God wants to give you: “a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.”

This verse is packed full of the new things God wants to do in your life. Joy is just one of them. Let him fill you with that joy today. Don’t grow weary. God’s not done with you yet.
