What to remember when you’re hurting

What to remember when you’re hurting:

I was in an accident once that left my thumb in nine pieces and severed from my body. The incident also cut through the major arteries and ligaments in my forearm. It was extremely painful.

I desperately needed a way to overcome my hurt. So, I naturally went to the hospital and saw a doctor. Hundreds of stiches and staples later I was on the mend.

As painful as my accident was I know there’s a hurt that runs deeper. It’s a hurt deep within your heart that can leave you broken. It’s a hurt that no doctor can fix.

Maybe that’s you? You’ve been betrayed, abandoned, abused or you might be grieving the loss of a loved one.

How do you deal with such a hurt in your life? How can you begin the process of healing?

Well, whatever your hurt stems from I have good news for you. God has a lot to say about the healing he wants to do in your life.

Here’s what to remember when you’re hurting:

God is nearer than you think.

When you’re hurting it is easy to feel like God is nowhere to be found. We learn from Psalm 34:18 the exact opposite is true.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

It’s important to remember that when you’re broken and feeling crushed, God has never been closer.

No brokenness is beyond God’s healing touch.

Feeling like your life will never be the same again is common when you’re dealing with pain. Psalm 147:3 reminds us what God does with brokenness.

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

Whatever hurt you’re experiencing right now God has already started to heal it. You might not see it or feel it but it’s happening and if you trust in him he will heal it completely.

God will deliver you.

Psalm 34:19 reminds us that even though we experience difficult times in life God is still the deliverer.

“The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.”

Pain is real, hurt is real, heartache is real but do you know what is more real? God’s deliverance. Trust in that. He always delivers.
