Five Verses You Need To Know

Need To Know

There are 32,102 verses in the Bible. It’s almost overwhelming to think about and it can sometimes be a daunting task to know where to start. Don’t worry; I’ve got you covered.

Here are five verses you need to know as you grow in your faith.

1. John 3:16-17

This is perhaps the most read, the most popular and, it just might be, the most important verse in the whole Bible.

John 3:16 New International Version (NIV)

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

2. Acts 4:11-12

How many ways to heaven are there anyway? Well, this answers that question by teaching us that there is only one.

Acts 4:11-12 New International Version (NIV)

Jesus is “‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

3. Romans 10:8-10

How do you know if you’re a Christian? There might not be a better verse to answer that question. It teaches us how we know.

Romans 10:8-10 New International Version (NIV)

But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

4. Ephesians 2:8-9

I can earn my way to heaven, right? We all like to think that but this verse teaches us that we can only get there by faith in God’s free gift, Jesus. Otherwise we would brag about how spiritual we are.

Ephesians 2:8-9 New Living Translation (NLT)

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

5. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Why do I need to read the Bible anyway? It’s old! Have you ever asked that? A lot of people like to think the Bible is old fashioned and outdated. This verse, however, says the complete opposite. It teaches us that we need the Bible, God’s word, to equip us for everything good.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 New Living Translation (NLT)

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

Ultimate Challenge:

Memorize one of these verses for the next five weeks. It might seem challenging, but you can do it! Write it out on a 3×5 card and put it on your mirror, on your dashboard, your desk… everywhere! Make it your lock screen and repeat it All. The. Time.  Hiding God’s word in your heart is the number one way to building your faith.
