When I bought my truck, it had a crack in the windshield. It didn’t bother me too much since it wasn’t affecting my vision and the windshield still did its job. Which means it kept the bugs from flying in my face.
All was good in the world until I decided to go through one of those cheap car washes attached to the gas station. As I pulled through the dryer portion (of which I use every second) I marveled at how clean my truck was. Then I noticed how big the crack on the windshield had become.
What once wasn’t a problem now has become a problem. What I should have done is had the crack repaired when it was small. Now I’m going to have to get a whole new windshield which I’m sure will be cheap.
Have you ever noticed that our life is a lot like a car wash? Okay, maybe you haven’t so bear with me because there are crazy similarities.
You can go through a rough situation and feel like your whole world just got rocked, someone sprayed soap in your eyes, and you’re all wet. Then you come out on the other side hoping to feel better but you feel a little cracked instead. Sound familiar?
We often feel this way because we try to be our own shield when we really should be letting God be our shield. Psalm 3:3 say, “You, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.”
Here’s a trustworthy saying; you were never intended to be your own shield; that’s God’s job.
Allowing God to be your shield will do three things in your life.
1. It will keep you from cracking under the pressure of life. – God’s shield never cracks, splits or splinters.
2. It will lift your head up. – Being surrounded by God’s shield is a place of joy not defeat. This is where the presence of God is most powerful, when he’s the shelter of our life.
3. It will bring God glory. –Going it alone is an act of self-worship and is the most dangerous place to be in a battle. Letting God be your protector is an act of worship to him and is the safest place. You always want to be under the protection of the King.
I love Psalm 18:2 when it says, “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
When you read this, don’t you see how strong God is? No amount of abuse can move his strong shield around his people.
