People often ask why Laura and I named our church Fusion Christian Church. The answer is simple: we wanted a church where people of all ages and backgrounds could come together as one family—to love God, love others, and tell everyone the good news of Jesus Christ.
The Bible says, “The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ… All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.” (1 Corinthians 12:12-13)
If you believe in Jesus, you are an essential part of His church—no way around it. We are connected by faith through the power of the Holy Spirit. It’s a spiritual ‘stuck togetherness’—a fusion—among all of God’s family.
And that means we’re better together.
Each member of the body must serve together for the church to fulfill its purpose. The apostle Paul explained it this way:
“The body has many different parts, not just one part. If the foot says, ‘I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,’ that does not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, ‘I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,’ would that make it any less a part of the body? If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything?
But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where He wants it. How strange a body would be if it had only one part! Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. The eye can never say to the hand, ‘I don’t need you.’ The head can’t say to the feet, ‘I don’t need you.’” (1 Corinthians 12:14-21)
I love Paul’s down-to-earth example. Imagine if your body was just a nose or a hand! Or if your eye started talking and said, “Arm, I don’t need you!” Ridiculous, right?
The same is true of God’s church. No one can say, “I don’t need the church. I’m good on my own.” That’s like your big toe telling your foot, “Get lost!”
Just as every part of your body is designed to fit together, you fit into God’s family, His church.
When God’s people—His fusion of believers—work together, nothing is impossible.
Think it over:
- How can you help make the body of Christ, His church, more effective?
- What gifts has God given you to serve others?
- What steps can you take to get better connected to the church and fulfill God’s purpose for your life?
