Time to Go Forward

Time to Go Forward

Do you ever wish you could go back and change a few mistakes from yesterday? Unfortunately, there is no such thing as time travel. If there were, it would be a trillion-dollar business.

The truth is, there are only two days you can’t change—yesterday and tomorrow. You only have right now. So there’s no reason to live in the past or stress about tomorrow.

If there’s anyone who could have been stuck in the past, it would have been the Apostle Paul. As a former proud persecutor of the early church, he arrested, beat, and killed innocent people. I can imagine the enemy tried to hang that guilt and shame over his head once or twice.

But he didn’t let that keep him down. About his past, he said, “The one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13–14)

Your past may haunt you from time to time, but you shouldn’t let it define you. One of the enemy’s favorite weapons is reminding us of who we used to be—our failures, our sins, our missed opportunities. But Paul, who had a shameful past as a killer of Christians, shows us the right response: forget what’s behind and press on to what’s ahead.

You can’t change yesterday. It’s written. Or tomorrow. It hasn’t arrived yet.

That’s why Jesus said, “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:34)

The only day you can truly live in is today. Today is the day to love Jesus and move forward. You don’t belong to your past; you belong to God’s future.

He’s not waiting for some future version of you to start using you for his purpose. He’s not limited by where you’ve been or what you did. He’s calling you now—toward a life of purpose, freedom, and forgiveness.

Looking back only slows you down. Start looking to what God has right in front of you and press on to what’s ahead.

It doesn’t mean you pretend your past didn’t happen. It means we trust that Jesus has covered it with His blood. The cross was enough. You’re forgiven when you put your faith in him.

So, don’t let regret rob you of the joy of today. Don’t let fear of tomorrow steal your peace. That’s what the enemy wants you to do. But that’s not what God has for you.

Think about it:

  • What part of your past is still holding you back—and are you willing to surrender it to Jesus?
  • What step of faith can you take today to press toward God’s purpose for your life?
