Thanksgiving Changes Everything

Thanksgiving Changes Everything

I was at the Julian Apple Pie Company the other day, picking up some goodies for Thanksgiving, when I overheard a conversation behind me. One lady said, “Excuse me, do you know if they have any strawberry rhubarb pie left?” “I’m sorry, but I’m not sure,” a woman responded.

“Well, I hope so! This is the fourth place I’ve been to looking for one. My husband absolutely loves those pies.”

Think about it—four stores looking for one pie, and a strawberry rhubarb one at that. That’s amazing!

How many stores have you shopped at to get ready for the big Thanksgiving Day? What if you included your online shopping?

If I were to guess, I’d say anywhere between two to five stores. That adds up to a lot of running around, shopping, traffic, and stress. We spend a lot of time getting ready for this one day.

Now let me ask you, how many times have you stopped to give thanks to God for, well, everything?

Let me caution you, don’t get so busy with the crazy of the season that you miss out on giving thanks to God and singing his praises. It will change your whole mood and your whole day. Why? Because it focuses you on the real source of the blessings in your life.

Take a moment and do it now. Here’s a great Psalm to help you get started.

Psalm 100

A psalm of Thanksgiving.

Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth!

Worship the Lord with gladness.
Come before him, singing with joy.

Acknowledge that the Lord is God!
He made us, and we are his.
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with Thanksgiving;
go into his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him and praise his name.

For the Lord is good.
    His unfailing love continues forever,
and his faithfulness continues to each generation.
