It was cold, and I mean a California cold of forty degrees, when I got in my truck to drive to work. I noticed that one of the windows was rolled down a bit so I hit the button to roll it up when- BAM! the whole window fell off the track, totally broken.
So far it was shaping up to be a great day (Insert sarcasm here.)
It’s okay, I said to myself. I grew up in Oregon. I can handle a little broken window and some cold air. I’ll just turn the heater on. Be a man, I said.
So, I jumped in, started the truck, let the engine warm up and turned on the heater. Then out came the sweet feeling of freezing cold air. Cozy, toasty, comfy… none of these words came to mind. I can’t type the ones that did.
There I was, driving down the road with a broken window that wouldn’t roll up and a heater that would only blow ice-cold air. Delightful! I was so happy you could see it all over my face. Cough!
Fine! I’ll just take it to my mechanic and have him fix it before the next rainstorm comes in over the weekend… or so I thought. Off I went, only to find the shop closed for the week because of New Year’s. (Who does that?!?)
Needless to say, I wasn’t a happy camper that day. I was pretty upset at first but I made a very important choice. I wasn’t going to let it ruin my day. I chose to live by the motto, “It is what it is.”
Here’s my point. Life is going to throw some dog days at you when nothing seems to go your way. You can get mad, throw a tantrum and let it ruin your day and probably everyone else’s. Or you can choose a better attitude.
James 1:2-4 teaches us how to deal with bad days when it says…
“When troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So, let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.”
God never promised us a perfect life where things go as planned. He did promise to use the bad days to our advantage. He said he would use the days that don’t go our way to grow us and make us more like him.
The truth is we need those bad days. They actually make us better. When things don’t go our way it make us more like Jesus.
So, here’s my question to you:
How are you going to respond when things don’t go your way? Because you make the choice.
Here’s a great verse to help you grow in your faith:
Thank you for this. pastor Zac. I want to grow and be more like Him on my bad days as well as my good.
I’m loving this 21 Days of Prayer and Victory!
God Bless You, Laura and the family. I’m also praying for Evan and his new journey. Today must be a bittersweet day for you and Laura. So full of joy and so proud of your son, yet him leaving for six months…well, I know that feeling of your child spreading their wings and leaving the nest. I know that God will be with Evan.
Blessed to be a part of the Fuson family,
Jody Camp
Thank you Jody!
Love the Lord our God with all your heart and soul and strength. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Let peace be your password to walk in the path God has placed before you.
