I don’t know about you but it’s easy for me to get caught up in the stress of the holidays. So much so that I can miss out on the joy of simple things, like being with family and friends. I can forget to take time to enjoy and love where I am.
We get so stressed about the next moment we forget about this one, and then the moment is gone. Do you have trouble loving where you are right now?
If so, I don’t want you to miss out on a single wonderful moment of your life. I want you to enjoy every second. God does too!
I believe this is where God teaches us something from the life of Mary. Her life was turned upside down when the angel visited her and told her she was going to be the mother of Jesus. It’s not what she expected but she took it in stride and soaked up every minute.
It’s from Mary we learn to enjoy the simple things and loving where your are right now.
You can’t get much simpler than Mary, Joseph, Jesus and a manger. Luke 2:12 tells us “She wrapped him in clothes and placed him in a manger.” Talk about a simple Christmas.
It’s the simple things in life that can have the most meaning and bring us the most joy. It’s when we try to go overboard that we get stressed out and, sadly, miss out on the now. Mary was all about enjoying the now moment she was in.
Luke 2:19 tells us, “Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” Do you know what that means? It means she took a minute, like all good moms do, and she soaked up the memory.
To treasure something in your heart means to take a step back and look at how wonderful the moment is. You can do that this Christmas. Stop for a second, look around and treasure that simple, wonderful time in your heart.
It might surprise you to know this but God actually tells us that he likes the simple things. In fact, he tells us to enjoy them too. Zechariah 4:10 says, “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.”
So take a moment, like Mary did, and enjoy it. Let it be simple. Tuck it away in your heart as a wonderful memory.
You might not be where you expected to be, but it is where you are, and it is the beginning of something great. Love it. It’s where God has you.
Talk It Over:
- What steps can you take to slow down and enjoy where you are right now?
- How can you make memories that your heart won’t ever forget?
