Building Something Great

Building Something Great

I’ve spent a good part of my life building things. I’ve built retaining walls, businesses, ministries and a garden that died. During that time of success and failure I’ve learned the single most important truth about building anything great.

It takes a great team to build anything great.

There’s no getting around it. Oh, there are individuals who get the glory and most of the spotlight. But guess what? Someone needs to turn the spotlight on.

Have you noticed that surrounding every great achievement in history was a team of people who made it happen?  It takes teams of people using their God-given gifts and talents to build something significant, something that can’t be accomplish by one individual.

Now you might not know it but God has gifted you to be part of a great team to build something great.

Romans 12:4-8 describes it this way, “Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well.”

Did you catch that? You are part of the body of Christ. Also known as the church. That means you’re part of the team, God’s team!

As part of his team he’s gifted you in a unique way through the power of his Spirit. It’s a gift only you can use but the whole body needs. The whole team needs you to use the gift you were given. You’re significant!

Want to know how to find out what gift God has given you? 1 Peter 4:10-11 gives us one-way when it says, “God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.”

One of the greatest ways to discover how God has uniquely gifted you is to start serving others. You’ll never discover it on your own. You need people for that because it takes a great team to build anything great.
