21 Days of Prayer – Day 11

21 Days of Prayer - Day 11

How to Pray – Part 7

When you come to Jesus, he sets you free. “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36)

That’s why the next prayer Jesus told us to pray is so important. He said, “Pray like this… And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.” (Matthew 6:13)

Once you’ve asked Jesus to “forgive you your sins,” he makes you “a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

The reason you need to pray “don’t let us yield to temptation” is because you never want to go back to the person you once were—the one who lived without Jesus.

Sadly, our sinful nature has a tendency to do just that. As Proverbs 26:11 says, “As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly.”

As gross as that sounds, that’s how God views us when we go back into a life of willful sin. It’s disgusting to God when we turn from his clean grace only to wallow in the mud again.

It’s why David prayed, “Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin.” (Psalm 19:13)

That must be your prayer too!

The good news is that we have the GREAT DELIVERER to hear and answer our prayers. He knows, “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)

So here’s my challenge today. Ask God to get rid of the temptations in your life, the ones the enemy uses to call you to go back to a life without Jesus. You know what they are!

In addition to this prayer, remove things in your life that make the temptation all the more real. Get rid of them. Throw them away if you have to. Find a friend to be accountable to. DO WHAT IT TAKES!

Never go back and never surrender to the enemy. Jesus paid it all for you!

Day 11 Prayer Verse:

“The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)

Day 11 Prayers:

  • Ask God to be your great deliverer from sin and temptation.
  • Pray that God would help his church to be strong against compromise.
  • Pray for our nation today. Ask him to help them make decisions free from sin.
