It’s easy to forget how powerful God is in the middle of a difficult circumstance, isn’t it? We can get so sidetracked by relying on our own abilities to save ourselves or improve our situation that we forget that God is the God of miracles.
Here’s what I want you to know – No matter how difficult it might seem right now God is still mighty to save.
Let’s remember what Psalm 77:14 says.
You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.
From the beginning of time God has been displaying his power among us and he’s not going to stop now.
There are an unlimited amount of miracles God has done since day one of creation. Here are two. Let them serve as a reminder of God’s mighty power.
1. Creation
If I were to guess most of you reading this struggle just to make the perfect fried egg or cup of coffee. Now imagine making a perfect universe. Oh, and make it out of nothing by just speaking words. Yeah, I didn’t think so.
The very fact the universe exists and continues to exist is nothing short of a miracle of God.
Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Psalm 33:6
By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.
Hebrews 11:3
By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
2. The day the sun stood still.
Since the beginning of time parents everywhere have uttered the words ‘will you just stand still’ to their children only to realize it’s never going to happen. No child, anywhere, at any time has ever fully complied with that command longer than five seconds.
Do you know why? Because parents are not like Joshua from the Bible. He is the only person who actually told the sun and moon to stand still and God listened so that Israel could defeat its enemies. (Imagine what his kids were like.)
Joshua 10:12-14
On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel: “Sun, stand still over Gibeon, and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.” So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel!
Those are two crazy miracles, right?
Now I want you to stop just for a minute. Take a deep breath and think. If God can create the universe by simply speaking it into existence if he can stop the sun and moon at a moment’s notice what do you think he can do in your situation?
Is there anything too hard for the Lord? The answer to that is a profound NO.
Why don’t you take a moment and pray something like this in the middle of your struggle?
God, I know you are more powerful than I can imagine. Help me to trust in you to work a miracle out of my situation. Give me the strength to believe that you are strong enough especially when I’m weak. I surrender to your wonder-working power. Have your way in my life. Amen.
